Debbie Kann Schwarzberg is also the Founder and President of the Richard David Kann Melanoma Foundation. In 1996, Richard, Debbie’s brother died of a late-detected melanoma. This unbearable tragedy and unnecessary death of a 44-year old vibrant young man led Debbie to begin on a crusade to increase awareness about prevention and early detection of skin cancer. The operations of the Foundation are handled by its Executive Director and its staff of educational professionals. The Foundation created the curricula, SunSmart America, which is used throughout the State of Florida teaching school children grades K-12 about sun safety and the early detection of skin cancer. The Foundation expects to succeed in offering the school-based curricula throughout the Country. In the past 13 years the Foundation has educated hundred of thousands of people on the prevention of skin cancer. The Foundation has been the recipient of many National awards and has developed partnerships with the Center for Disease Control, American Academy of Dermatology and other prominent health organizations. |
